Terribly unhappy in his family's crowded New York City apartment, Sam Gribley runs away to the solitude-and danger-of the mountains, where he finds a side of himself he never knew.(Amazon.com)
This book is labeled Junior Fiction at my library. Don't let that fool you, it was a really good book, with lots of nature, animals and learning how to survive. Sam heads to the Gribley farm, which is not a farm anymore, but a wilderness. Sam is looking for somewhere to live in the wilderness. He hunts and hunts and finally settles on a Chestnut Tree with a hollow at the bottom. Sam burns and cuts out his tree to make it bigger. Then Sam is off to find food. What he finds is really interesting. Really liked this book...*****
