FUNGUS

A couple weeks ago we had this fungus growing in our tree.  The wind has finally knocked it out of the tree.  Don't know exactly what it is, but it's some kind of toadstool.

QUILT # 2

I finally got Luke's Coloring Book Quilt done.  I really like the border I put on this.  Makes the whole quilt pop.  Now all I need is to make a trip to Jo Ann's Fabrics to get some batting and backing.  Which I don't really like doing, going to Marion to get the stuff.  But I'll make the trip so I can get these quilts done.

BOOK REPORT

"The Dog Stars" by Peter Heller

Product Description(Amazon.com)
This book is set in Colorado after a superflu has culled most of humanity. A man named Hig lives in a former airport community—McMansions built along the edge of a runway—which he shares with his 1956 Cessna, his dog, and a slightly untrustworthy survivalist. He spends his days flying the perimeter, looking out for intruders and thinking about the things he’s lost—his deceased wife, the nearly extinct trout he loved to fish. When a distant beacon sparks in him the realization that something better might be out there, it’s only a matter of time before he goes searching.

MY THOUGHTS:
This is my book clubs choice for June.  Really awesome book.  If you have read Cormack McCarthy's "The Road", you will like this book too.  It's full of Hig's thoughts and emotions.  And when he stumbles on a man and woman living alone in the mountains, on the other side of Denver, he finds something he's been missing for 9 years.  This is the journey of a man, his dog and his new family and how they all survive.

ROSES

My roses are blooming and they are loaded with blooms this year.  I haven't seen one bug on them either.  The red roses were here when we moved here30+ years ago.  Not sure what kind of rose it is.  The pink roses are an heirloom rose called Seven Sisters.  My mother had a Seven Sisters bush years ago and it was really huge.  I wanted one for my own, so went looking on the internet for a seller.  Mine has been growing for about 10 years now and it gets better with age.  The Antique Rose Emporium is where I got mine.  I wish you could smell them,  they smell so good.

LOST KITTENS.....

We had a stray cat hanging around here all winter and spring.  Well, she had babies in our barn.  But she has abandoned them.  So we have been feeding them.  They are about 4 weeks old now.  And eating solid food along with milk.
Do you know how hard it is not to pick them up??  But we haven't touched them, hoping mom will come back.  But it doesn't look like she'll be back.  She's been gone for 2 weeks now.

PANCAKES ANYONE

Sometimes we have breakfast for supper.  It's fast and easy and everyone loves it.  What is it?  Eggs, Bacon, Cereal??  None of the above.  It's Pancakes.  I personally like mine with butter, peanut butter and maple syrup.  Plus we make them from scratch, not a pancake mix.  Here is the recipe if you want to try it out.

PANCAKES
1 1/2 C. Flour
3 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Salt
1tbsp White Sugar

1 1/4 C.Milk
1 Egg
3 tbsp Butter(melted)

1/4 of a cup of batter makes a really good size pancake.
