VINTAGE RECIPE THURSDAY

My sister gave me this recipe years ago. I've used it countless times. Although it doesn't really taste like a muffin to me, it kind of reminds me of a biscuit, only fluffyer. And since I can't make biscuits, this is the next best thing. You know, the old fashioned kind mom used to make. Anyway here's the recipe. Sorry don't have any pictures. But they are yummy with some butter and jelly!

Muffins

1/4 C. Sugar
2 C. Flour
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Egg
1 C. Milk
1/4 C. Shortening

In a medium size bowl mix until blended. NOTE: do not over mix, there will be lumps. Pour into well greased muffin tin. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes. Serve hot. Makes about 12.

MY THOUGHTS: A really good old fashion western. It's a major fight between the rival railroads. It's good and bad against each other. One railroad is big and rich. The other is small and fighting to stay afloat. Who's going to win the right to the Royal Gorge? You'll have to read the book to find out.

FOGGY DAYLIGHT

I went out to take some pictures of daylight this morning, only there wasn't any. Fog all around and no sun.

PROJECT 365

It has been cold and rainy here all week. Not hard rain, it was the light misty rain. It would rain for awhile and stop. Then start again. Didn't get outside much because of the rain. But did pop outside a few times between showers.

Even though it was misty raining I popped outside to get his picture. You can see the signs of Autumn all around.

I went to my hubby's work shed for some pictures this week. I don't know why, every time I go in there I want to clean and organize.

After a cloudy, misty rain all day, the sun finally peeked out around sunset.

Bella and Luke playing. Bella just loves the camera. She has a big smile whenever she sees you holding the camera.

Another shot from my hubby's work shed. A pan full of nuts and bolts. I so ant to organize these. But just mentioning that word to him sends him into fits.

The Honeysuckle is blooming all over the yard. We have an old t.v. tower that the Honeysuckle has covered. It looks like a giant Christmas Tree.

Well, that's my week.

FIBERS ON FRIDAY

Beth over at Visions of Sugar Plums is the host for Fibers on Friday. It's all about knitting and crocheting, anything to do with fibers.

I've been working on the doily from He@&. Have your ever started a project and wondered why your doing it? Where everything seems to go wrong? That's what this doily is. I don't know if it's me or the pattern but I just couldn't get this one done. I've ripped it out 3 times and started over. But this didn't work. So the last time I just continued on with the pattern. Someway or another I've ended up with 9 pineapples. There are only suppose to be 8.

It started to pucker up and I was getting so frustrated. So I finally gave up and ripped it out and instead of the bigger doily I got this smaller one.

It's sitting on my desk and it looks pretty good. I think I'll leave it there.

Every once in awhile I run across a doily pattern that I just can't seem to get. This is one of them.

MY THOUGHTS: When I picked this book up I didn't know it was series of books. But it is just as good as a stand alone. What really hooked me on this book was the beginning. Vicky is describing where she is. She's on an Ice Berg in the middle of the ocean with a seal. What I wanted to know is how she got there. The book takes you from Vicky's home to Antarctica. While on the trip Vicky keeps getting mysterious notes from Adam. Adam is a student at LeNoir station at Antarctica. It all starts when Aunt Serena gives her the tickets to go to Antarctica. She gets mysterious notes in her locker warning her not to go. Then along the way at several stops she gets all these mysterious letters and postcards from Adam warning her about something, but she's not sure what it is. Keep in mind Antarctica is a neutral country but everyone wants their piece of it. I can't really say too much more as it will give the whole book away. Really good book.

SIGNS OF AUTUMN

All over the back yard and every where else signs of autumn are creeping in. The trees are starting to turn and some of the weeds are turning.

PROJECT 365

The smothering heat and humidity came back this week. Highs in the 90's. We were under heat advisory's several times this week. But I did manage to get a couple good shots outside before the heat sit in.

Bella and Luke messing around with the tomatoes on the deck. Bella actually took a bite of one.

Bella and Luke love dill pickles. They actually eat them now that they have teeth. They nibble at them until they only have a small piece and then we take them away.

Hubby found this slide in the trash this spring. Brought it home and cleaned it up. We had it stashed until the twins were old enough to play on it. Luke finally got brave and went down the slide.

My purse most of the time. It has all my important stuff in it. If I need anything else I have a small purse to carry.

Hubby putting on child safety locks. Just when we thought we had everything locked down the twins find something else we have to add a lock to.

The twins are now taking Homogenized milk. They go through about 2 gallons in 3 days. They like the stuff.

VINTAGE RECIPE THURSDAY

I've probably posted this before but it's really good and deserves another go round. It's called Wacky Cake and my Great Aunt Evelyn gave me the recipe a long time ago. Way back when I was a new bride and mother to be. So it's been a few years. It's also a favorite around here. Usually I don't put icing on the cake, it's moist enough to stand on it's own.

Wacky Cake

Ingredients

3 C. Flour
2 C. Sugar
2 teas. Baking Soda
1 teas. Salt
6 T. Cocoa
2 C. Water
2 teas. Vanilla
2/3 C. Oil
2 teas. Vinegar

In a large mixing bowl, mix all ingredients well. Pour into a well greased and floured 9 X 11 cake pan. Bake at 350 for 35 to 45 minutes. Or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
